  16.  
  17.     Recently, I asked about how to create BitMap fonts from outline fonts.
  18. Many individuals pointed me to BitFont, which was in the archives at one
  19. time, but seems to have disappeared.
  20.  
  21.     Please find enclosed BitFont 1.0, (I believe that there is a more
  22. recent copy, but was unable to find it).  BitFont is a PD program which
  23. will create BitMap fonts from outline Fonts.
  24.  
  25.     It's not magic, you'll need to have the appropriate software installed.
  26. (If you want to make BitMaps of TrueType fonts, you'll have to have
  27. TrueType installed, if you want to make BitMaps of Type 1 fonts, you'll
  28. have to have ATM installed.)  However, if you're constanly waiting for 17
  29. point, or if you have a user who is still using System 5, and they need to
  30. have BitMap fonts of some PD outline font, BitFont seems to do the job
  31. quite nicely.

  97. Font Clerk is a font reporting/conversion utility. It contains several report
  98. formats for things such as point sizes, key sequences for special characters,
  99. sample text, and full character sets. You may select one or many fonts at once
  100. for reporting purposes. In addition to reports, Font Clerk provides you with
  101. improtant information about the fonts installed in your system. You can easily
  102. find out whether any given font is monospaces or proportional. You may also
  103. find which fonts are TrueType, Type I and screen fonts.

  105. Font Clerk allows you to convert between Macintosh and Windows TrueType font
  106. formats. Conversion both ways is supported. You may also create empty suitcases
  107. for organizing your fonts.

  207. This is Font Tuner, an application that fixes a bug in the
  208. System file of System 7.1.  This is from the "Read Me":
  209.  
  210. >When System 7.1 starts up, before any extensions load, it
  211. >looks at all of the fonts in the Fonts folder. As it's looking
  212. >at them, it loads each font into memory one at a time. I guess
  213. >it's looking inside and building its list of available fonts
  214. >and doing whatever other magic it does.

  217. >before it loads the next one. The result is that every font on
  218. >your Mac is loaded and locked down forever and ever, taking up

  227. You should only use this if you have System 7.1.  Also keep in mind
  228. that only some Macs are affected by this bug.  It shouldn't damage
  229. Macs not affected by the bug.

  231. You should probably turn off antivirus software while this is
  232. running.  And the fix may take a few minutes:  don't turn off your
  233. Mac, just let the program do its job.

  307. It might be worth noting that the files saved in version 4.0.4 cannot
  308. be reopened in version 4.0.1 (or 4.0.0 or 4.0.2). Altsys changed the
  309. file format with version 4.0.3.
